This variable provides an alternate method for determining which LINE SEQUENTIAL files have trailing spaces removed from records written to them. At the time a LINE SEQUENTIAL file is opened, the value of this variable is examined. If this variable is "1" (on, true, yes), then automatic space suppression is applied to this file. The default value is "0" (off, false, no).
