When set to "1" (on, true, yes), this variable causes a numeric data item that contains non-numeric data to be treated as zero when that item is used in a numeric statement. Setting the value to "0" (off, false, no) causes the item to be treated "as is" with whatever effects that has. The default value is "1" (on, true, yes).
