This variable allows you to specify the directory to be used for temporary
files generated by the transaction management system. The value is treated as a
prefix, much like FILE_PREFIX. If you do not specify a directory for these temporary files, they are
placed into the current directory.
In general, you should not use remote name notation in the LOG_DIR variable.
Although remote name notation is allowed for the LOG_DIR variable, it is not
advisable to place temporary files on a remote server.
